Zackary Girtman is a sophomore out of Central High School in Macon, Georgia. The sophomore sensation lines up out wide at wideout, as well as plays defensive back for the Chargers.
Central is currently over .500 on the year, as they sit at 3-2. They dropped the first two games of the season, but they have ripped off three straight wins in a row.
I chatted with the 5’8 150-pounder and asked him how it felt thus far about his team and where they are going and he had some great things to say.
“I feel like our team is very powerful,” Girtman said. “Each player is important on our team, at any given time that they are on the field. There is no one man that is bigger than the team. All eleven of us are important to our team success.”
Through the first three games, the sensational sophomore had already totaled eleven tackles with two pass breakups, to add to his young resume’. The more he plays, the more he is seeing his role increased on defense.
I wanted to know what separates him from other kids, and I liked the responses that he provided.
“I am a very hard-working young man,” Girtman said. “I’m always willing to work, no matter what the weather looks like outside. I love to take hits at wideout and on defense, I love to bring the hammer. I am the ultimate team player.”
Certainly a mindset that will take him far.
He also wanted to add a personal mantra that he lives by as well.
“Every morning when you wake up, you have two choices: to sleep with your dreams, or to wake up and chase them.”
If football doesn’t workout, he may have a future in motivational speaking!
Girtman is just as serious about his grades and the work he does in the classroom. He currently boasts a 3.5 GPA, which is more than enough to earn a scholarship at the next level.
Girtman is a hard worker in the gym as well, as he has a current max squat of 285 pounds and a power clean of 210 pounds.
At 150 pounds, this young man certainly is strong!
Girtman is continuing to work hard in all aspects of the game of football.
Girtman and the rest of the Chargers will take on Upson Lee at home this Friday at 7:30.
