Player Spotlight: Romelo Portillo C/O ’21 Tailback

The Texas Tornado

Romelo Portillo is a talented playmaker for Holy Cross of San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas.

Known as ‘The Texas Tornado’ to those that have heard of him, Portillo is a tailback for the Knights.

That sounds like a fitting name for Portillo, as he routinely gives defenses fits, and he has the awards and accolades to back it up.

Portillo was named to the All-State team in both 2019 and 2020 as a tailback. He also added in All-District Honors in 2019 and 2020 as well, just for good measure.

Standing at 5’8, 185 pounds, Portillo has good size for a tailback that is looking to play at the next level as well.

In the weight-room, Portillo is a force as well, as he has a max squat of 400 pounds and a max bench of 300 pounds!

From a speed and quickness standpoint, Portillo runs a 4.6 in the forty-yard-dash, as well as has a time of 4.56 in the Shuttle Drill.

Portillo told us that what separates him as a player, is that most people will do what they can to make it, but he will do what it takes!

Strong words from a talented player!

The Texas Tornado currently holds 37 offers, including an offer from Judson University.

Portillo is also a member of the My Recruits program, who will have previously written on, and is one of the top recruiting services in the country. Coach Lou Perrone and his staff do a great job at getting guys recruited, and can be attributed to the success of Portillo and other guys like Kelby “Waco” Turner in getting them offers.
