Player Spotlight: Gordy Hoover C/O ’21 ATH

Hoover #3

Gordy Hoover is a sensational senior prospect for Hempfield High School in Landisville, Pennsylvania.

Hoover truly does it all for the Black Knights, as he plays several positions on all three sides of the ball. On offense, Hoover sees time at fullback and tight end. On defense, the talented playmaker plays defensive end and linebacker. On special teams, Hoover is a long snapper.

There is not much this young man cannot do!

Standing at 6’1, 215 pounds, Hoover has the size to play any position that a team needs for him to play.

In the weight-room, Hoover does not disappoint, as he has a deadlift max of 405 pounds and a squat of 355 pounds, to go along with his max bench of 280 pounds.

Hoover felt like he and his team had a solid season.

“We had a new coaching staff in place and everything was new for us this year,” Hoover said. “I feel like we adjusted well overall. We had a new offensive and defensive scheme this year and it was a challenge for us for sure.

“We also had to factor in the pandemic that we had to deal with. We started later than anticipated but once we got it rolling, we did well. I like the future of the program.”

Hoover feels like his versatility is key in what makes him different than other players in the country.

“I played several positions this year and that helped me to learn the game from different positions,” Hoover said. “I am willing to continue to learn even more and I can learn quickly and be able to be used however teams need me to be used.”

With a 3.3 GPA, Hoover has the grades to get him to the next level and play college ball, he is now just looking for the best fit for him.

Hoover currently holds offers from Ursinus, Alvernia, Mount Marty, Kings, Denison and Misercordia. It will be interesting to see where this diverse player will end up!
