Player Spotlight: Micah Gay C/O ’22 Safety/Linebacker/Athlete

Micah Gay is a rising senior athlete for Johns Creek High School in Johns Creek, Georgia.

Gay plays several positions for the Gladiators, seeing time at both linebacker and safety, as well as other places on the field.

Standing at 6’0, 190 pounds, Gay has great size to play on the defensive side of the ball, with a year to grow into his frame even more!

With his size, Gay reminds us of Micah Hyde of the Buffalo Bills, who were one game away from the Super Bowl.

In the weight-room, Gay takes care of business, as he has a max squat of 350 pounds and a max bench press of 215 pounds.

Gay is also able to run a 4.7 in the forty-yard-dash, as well as having a vertical leap of 31″!

Gay made the jump this season from 1-A football in Georgia to 6-A. As a sophomore, Gay was able to amass First Team All-Region Honors in 1-A.

Picking up where he left off, Gay came into 6-A and quickly made an impact and became a starter on the team. Due to Covid-19 limiting the season, Gay and the Gladiators had a shortened season.

“Even though the season, was cut short due to Covid, I feel like we played well,” Gay said. “We were able to make it into the playoffs, and I feel that we have positioned ourselves to be highly ranked next fall, as a result.”

Gay feels like he brings certain elements of himself, both on and off the field, that allow for him to be set apart from other players.

“I feel like I am an energetic player, as well as a leader on the field,” Gay said. “I have been playing football for thirteen years, and it makes the game a bit easier for me as a result. I feel my instincts and understanding of the game are hard to compete with.

“I feel I have tremendous closing speed, which has proved to be valuable for me in the past on special teams, and running the football. I also play well in pass coverage, which causes QB hurries and turnovers or broken plays.”

A dual-sport athlete, Gay also runs track for the school, competing in the long and triple jump, in addition to running the 100. Gay has an older brother that plays lacrosse at the D-1 level, so athleticism certainly runs deep in the family.

With a 3.1 GPA in the classroom, Gay takes care of his books, so that he is able to earn offers from colleges.

With one offer already, from Presbyterian College, and interest from several others, it will be interesting to see just how many this playmaker racks up next fall!
