Benton will suit up as an outside linebacker and a strong safety this fall for the Panthers, in hopes of building on the 11-2 season from 2020.
Standing at 6’0, 215 pounds, Benton reminds us of a standout safety for the Buffalo Bills, Jordan Poyer, who led the league in tackles for safeties.
While the Panthers had a great run last fall, making it to the third round, they are looking to avenge the loss that they took from the eventual state champions in Buford.
“I feel like my season went well,” Benton said. “It was definitely an interesting experience to make the deep playoff run. Making it to the playoffs is always great, and to make it to the third round is even better, but we are working hard every day and looking to win state in 2021.”
As a player, Benton knows that he has to do things that will make him standout from the rest of the players in the country.
“I have great speed, and that certainly helps me evade blockers,” Benton said. “I also am very strong and explosive as well. I am a very fundamentally sound athletic player, and I have a winning attitude. My coverage skills are elite [for my position.
“I also know where I am supposed to be at and when, on any given play. I play my roles that are given to me very well, so that my teammates can excel as well.”
Wow, sounds like Benton is an all-around player!
In the classroom, there are not many better than Benton, as he currently has a 3.7 GPA, which can open a ton of doors for him at the next level.
Though he has not gotten an offer yet, be on the lookout for this talented young man to pull some in before it is all said and done!
