Houze is a combo guard for the Panthers, playing both the shooting guard and point guard spots.
Standing at 6’3, 180 pounds, Houze has the size comparison to that of Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.
Houze has quite a story that landed him at a post grad team, but he feels as though he was able to accomplish some great things after a tough injury.
“Coming back to play after tearing my patella tendon was tough,” Houze said. “I ended up having to get surgery to repair it. Leaving the Division-II program that I was at was tough, but as a team, we made the best of a tough situation.
“We played a tough schedule, with several really good junior college programs. While we competed with them, we did not get the outcome that we wanted in most games, but that did not stop us from fighting to the end.”
Houze knows that there is a lot of top talent in the country, and that he has to do certain things to separate himself from other players.
“This year, for me personally, was about growing as a leader,” Houze said. “I knew that it was up to me to set the standard, and to be the example of and for the program. While I did transfer in late, I made sure everyone was able to see the work ethic I possess.
“I lead by example by staying late to watch film and to get a better understanding of the game, as well as put up extra shots in the gym. I am willing to do whatever it takes for my team to win.
When it comes to being selfless, there are not many players that are like Houze.
“If I am called on to score, I can do that. If I am called in to dive on a loose ball, I am diving in head first. If I get subbed in just to foul and get subbed out, I am fine with that as well. If the team needs me to do the work, I will show up and do it.
“For me, it is all about what you do with the opportunity that is given to you, and I will not let any opportunity go to waste.”
Houze is another prospect that we have written on with our new partner, NSA Prospects, which is a wonderful company that helps hoopers gain attention from college coaches. To date, they have had a hand in assisting 72 players sign to play at the next level, in just under two years. For contact information, their Twitter is @nsaprospects.
With a 3.0 GPA in the classroom, Houze shows that he can take care of the academics, as well as do what it takes on the floor, averaging 18 points per game, as well as 7 rebounds per game.
