Player Spotlight: Jaylin Fields C/O ’23 Defensive Tackle/Offensive Line

Jaylin Fields is rated as the #46 overall player in the state of Alabama

Jaylin Fields is a rising junior football player for Ashford High School, which is based out of Ashford, Alabama.

Fields plays in the trenches for the Yellow Jackets, and he sees time on both sides of the ball, as an offensive lineman on offense, and on the defensive line on defense, and more specifically at defensive tackle.

The 6’1, 260-pounder is a dual-sport athlete, showing off his versatility on the hardwood, as a basketball player for Ashford.

Fields has been clocked at running a 5.1 in the forty-yard-dash, as well as has an impressive 500 pound squat max, a 250 pound bench press max, a 245 pound power clean, a 94 in the broad jump, and a 7’0 wing span!

In addition to those impressive numbers, Fields also posted 18 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles in his sophomore campaign. Those stats and abilities lead him to be named in the Top-50 players in the state!

Fields is excited for the season that is coming, and will have a more prominent role on the team than in previous seasons.

“I am looking forward to this season,” Fields said. “We have a ton of great talent, and I look for us to make a deep playoff run. I also have more of a leadership role this season, so I will be leading more by example, by working hard at all times.”

Knowing that is important to set himself apart from other players, Fields works tirelessly to be the best he can be.

“I think my speed and my footwork set me apart from other players,” Fields said. “I also have good hands, good lateral movement, good hip flexibility, good tackling, good shed ability, as well as a high IQ for the game of football.”

Every player has a reason for why they play the game, and what drives them when adversity hits, and Fields has that as well.

“I just love this game of football,” Fields said. “Ever since I first started playing, I have wanted to take it seriously. My drive comes from those who doubt me, and felt like I was not good enough to play.”

One area Fields is more than good enough in, is the classroom. With a current 3.8 GPA in the classroom, many, many doors will open for this impressive young man, and we cannot wait to see where he lands in a couple of years.
