Player Spotlight: Zackary Girtman C/O ’23 Defensive Back

Zackary Girtman is a rising junior athlete for Central High School, which is based out of Macon, Georgia.

A dual-sport athlete, Girtman plays on the defensive side of the ball for the Chargers football team, as he plays defensive back, and he is also a member of the soccer team, which is what he credits his footwork and speed to.

Standing at 5’9.5, 152 pounds, Girtman is already growing nicely into his frame, and he still has two years to grow before he graduates!

In the weight-room, Girtman is ensuring that he is getting stronger, as he has an impressive 405 pound squat max, which is well over twice his body weight! He was also clocked at a 4.59 and a 4.49 in the forty-yard-dash at the Mercer Mega Camp recently!

While being pleased with how last season went, Girtman is focused on following that up with a strong junior campaign.

“Last season went pretty well as far as gaining experience,” Girtman said. “This season, will be an ‘unleash the dog’ type of season for me. Even though we lost a lot of seniors, we still have athletes to play at a high level, on both sides of the ball.”

Every player has things that helps them to standout, and Girtman is no exception to that, as he does many things well.

“I feel like what makes me standout, is my work ethic for one,” Girtman said. “I also feel like my mentality is just different. When I see guys like Jeff Okudah (Detroit Lions) and Paris Ford (Pitt Panthers) play, I see they work hard daily, and I try to emulate that.”

Every player has a reason for playing the game, and Girtman’s why is what drives him to continue to be great.

“Football is special to me,” Girtman said. “That is my comfort; my peace. The game drives me to be better every single day. My role models and my environment drive me to be great as well.”

That greatness is not limited to the football field, as Girtman’s best stat is in the classroom, with his 3.6 GPA! He is the kind of player that you do not have to worry if they will be academically ineligible, that is for sure!

We also wrote on Girtman in another spotlight article, back in October of 2020, while he was in the middle of his season. In order to view that article, it can be found here.
