Jahir Palmer: 6’0, 175 Cornerback/Safety
When you turn on the tape of Palmer, you immediately see his coverage skills on display and why quarterbacks tend to not throw his way. He also does a great job on the special teams unit, throwing blocks for his teammates, to set his team in better position. He is a very physical defensive back that is not afraid to lay a big hit on an opposing player. Does a great job at getting to the quarterback on plays that he blitzes. Takes on and sheds blocks with ease in pursuit of the ballcarrier. Has a nose for the football and is able to pickup fumbles with ease. Does a great job in coverage of staying on the hip of the opposing player. Does well when being brought down into the box on certain plays. Does very well with seeing and covering the field.
Palmer is a great football player, and we feel that the year that he spends in his post grad will do great for him. He will have an extra year to work on some of his techniques, and get better overall. Look for him to have a stellar year at the post grad level, while being coached by a great staff, and he will be a great addition next season to a team!
We also wrote on Palmer in one of our Player Spotlight features, which highlights athletes on and off the field. You can find that article here.
